The Harvey Beaks Show (fan reboot)

This is my collection of artwork for The Harvey Beaks Show, a fan reboot of the original.

Lot of differences that this version of the show has:
-the reboot would take place in a small city, not a magical forest,
-the entire show’s visual aesthetic is based off of 1950s Disney/MGM/UPA/WB theatrical shorts
-the kids go to school, there’s a fall visual theme opposed to the springtime theme,
-humans and animals co-exist with one another,
-live-action actors would be incorporated into this show to interact with the 2D characters

Changes to the characters include:
-Dade’s parents are a manager of a supervillain weapons manufacturing company, and an alien empress
-Also, Dade has alien powers
-Piri Piri now is Polynesian/Hawaiian, to match her colorful and bubbly personality and love of flowers and art
-Foo is now the genius Ditz of the gang: he’s able to create revolutionary inventions, construct complex machinery, and consistently make honor roll, and is academically gifted, yet still the hyperactive hungry weirdo. Him and Piri definitely bond a lot over the course of the show over their shared interests of the arts and nature.
-Fee is now suffering an identity crisis: with Foo becoming the family breadwinner and gaining more praise and popularity, and not being academically gifted, she feels a bit of envy towards her brother, she’s feeling more like his shadow. Her and Foo have survived living in BigBark Woods for 8 years, and she felt confident knowing what to expect and being counted on to make the right choice. Now that they’re among people, and Fee gaining newfound feelings for Harvey, Fee is struggling to make a name for herself, and learning how to “girl.” Fee is nice, and although she gives off those “high school mean girl” vibes, she’s definitely getting in touch with her feminine side.
-Harvey Beaks himself, aside from a slight wardrobe change, is pretty much the same good boy he’s always been; he’s the quintessential Everyman, a square peg in a round world, longing to indulge in the same childhood mischievousness as Fee and Foo, but struggles to abandon his obedient lifestyle. He’s adored by both children and the adults alike, and is often mistaken for an animatronic bobblehead or theme park mascot.

And yeah, in this version of the series, Harvey and Fee slowly but progressively become a thing: In Harvey, Fee finds the safety, security, and comfort she and Foo have been longing for, and in Fee, Harvey is granted the opportunity to drop the “Boy Scout” act and just be himself; she encourages him to take more healthy risks. This ship is a visual metaphor of order and chaos. Everyone can clearly see the chemistry and joke about it much to Harvey’s obliviousness and Fee’s humiliation.

Drawing this kid, and manipulating his big round head, and doing all these Fred Moore like poses with Harvey is super satisfying. Over time, as I’ve been drawing Harvey, I’ve given him a bit of paunch, his body is now more rounder, his feet are large, his eyes are a bit conjoined, I’ve drawn Harvey doing these exaggerated Tex Avery/Disney like wild takes, and pairing him with Fee. Drawing Harvey and this iteration of the show has been a ton of fun, even if this is all unofficial and won’t ever see the light of day.
